Music 4 The Modern Mind - by Iggy Ice

The Lost Spider's "Crispy Duck" was released this week and reviewed by Flash Brendan & Harley Ice. They are working on their video presentation for this coming Friday for extra credit. Harley always views extra credit in terms of money on his PS4 account to buy stuff. Flash Brendan, on the other hand, takes a more intellectual approach. Save it for college! Smart kids. Both have starter college funds already. "Parents have a lot of expenses on their plate." said the Flash. "Yeah, like paying the cable bill!" Added Harley Ice. Then Flash Brendan goes into the calmest rant I've seen in years. "Good point Harley. We know without that particular bill being paid, you can't get onto your gaming systems. I was thinking more in the line of: work, cleaning the house, doing laundry, shopping, cooking, helping us with our homework, taking us to the doctors..."  Harley's head starts to spin. "Woo Doctor Zeus! Slow your roll. I'm about to jump into a tournament."  Brendan shakes his head and turns off the camera.

Iggy Ice here. I'm sharing this story with you to let you know that when all is said and done, the amount of time we now have on our hands due to unforeseen circumstances, will always be trumped by what we do with that time. Stepping up our game when it comes to family is key. Left to their own devices, kids between the ages of 6-14 will disengage from their routine, and new neural pathways will be reassigned by what you allow them to do. It's important to stay on the same routine beginning with bedtime and morning rituals, just like they were going to school. Why? School will eventually resume. Weeks of bad habits, poor diet and no exercise, can have an adverse effect on this age group. (Source of info: Mayo Clinic. They make more than mayonnaise it seems! Visit their website, and use Wikipedia when in doubt of just about anything said Flash Brendan age 10)

Summary: Engage your kids during the quarantine. Practice safety protocols, but try not to dwell on the pandemic too much. Kids do not do gloom and doom very well. We didn't when we were kids, so don't expect today's kids to be any different. Just use your imagination like The Lost Spider does. Create something with them that they can be proud of. Something they can hold on to. A tangible assets they create for themselves. The long lasting value of something sitting in a shoebox for decades, then discussed with the next generation, should not die out like most cultures oral traditions. Storytelling is a lost art. Infused with history, facts, and seasoned with a parents own experiences and imagination, will excite your child's mind to a sufficient enough level. These are the new neural pathway we need to help our children create. IMO. Let's hear your's in the comments.
